TO BE CONTINUED

Hi all. Regardless of the season, at some point you suddenly realize that you are missing a couple more dresses. Let's try to sew a dress without a pattern quickly.

Exclusive outfit

If you decide to sew a dress with your own hands, then you can give free rein to your imagination by coming up with something that you won’t see on any girl.

Let's get down to business!

First, let's sew a straight dress. You will need two lengths of knitted fabric. If the material does not crumble, the sleeves and neckline can be left untreated and the bottom can be folded.

This model can be any length. Just like the colors. Here in this video there are very cheerful colors, and you can choose something of your own!

Party outfit

You have been invited to a party, but there is no new outfit. In 2 hours you will update your wardrobe by sewing a wonderful evening dress from stretch fabric without using a pattern.

The little black dress has always been considered the most elegant outfit.

  1. Take 1 meter of material, fold it in half.
  2. Layer a tank top with wide shoulders over it.
  3. Outline the top, then set the desired length from the waist line.
  4. Then cut out and sew the side and shoulder seams.
  5. If the neck is small, increase its size.
  6. Next we sew the sleeves. We cut out 2 rectangles, making a width that corresponds to the circumference of the arm at the widest point, and the length can be taken as desired - 45-60 cm.
  7. Attach the rectangles to the shelves and cut along the armhole line.
  8. Now the resulting sleeves need to be sewn on.

Following the description, you will get a great outfit for the evening.

I will explain how and why this dress will fit on different figures, and you decide for yourself whether to sew it for yourself or not.

The fabric is flat, but the figure is not. To ensure that the fabric fits the figure, for example, a dart is placed in the chest area. The larger the bust, the larger the dart. The smaller the bust, the simpler (dartless) the cut can be

And what is important: the larger the chest, the greater the difference between the measurements Front Length to Waist and Back Length to Waist. If we make the front and back of the dress the same length, then along the front there will be tension, and at the waist of the back there will be excess fabric sagging

If you don’t make a dart, and there are no darts in this dress, then all this fabric that needs to be put into the dart will fall into a fold from the chest diagonally down

There's nothing scary about it, but some people don't like it. This, by the way, also happens when the dart is too small for that bust.

If you sew from knitwear, there will be fewer folds. The more stretchable the knitwear, the fewer folds and creases there will be. And the softer the fabric (silk, thin cotton, linen, chiffon), the softer the excess fabric will be laid.

Of course, no one is canceling the cut with darts.

I propose to wear the dress that we will sew with a wide belt, and thus emphasize the figure. And the absence of darts will be hidden in the overall volume of the overlap and folds in the waistband area

Here's my jersey shift dress.

In general, a straight-cut dress without darts looks great on a figure with a small bust. Girls with large breasts: try on a ready-made dress in a store, and let’s start sewing

The construction of the front and back pattern is as follows:

1. build a right angle at point O. Draw the line of the shoulder (to the right) and the middle of the dress (down)

2. To the right along the shoulder line we put aside the shoulder length measurement plus 10-12 cm

3. put down the Length to the hips, draw a horizontal line to the right (this will be the hip line).

Then set aside the Length of the dress (+5 cm for the overlap above the belt if you wear it with a belt), draw a horizontal line to the right (bottom line)

4. At the hip level, set aside the hip circumference plus 0−10 cm (depending on the fabric) and divide by 4

In the picture with the brown dress, the increase is 10 cm, no more.

On my knitwear (with spots) there is no increase in the hips (increase 0).

From the resulting point we draw a vertical line up to the level of the sleeve and down to the level of the bottom.

That is, from the hip line to the bottom, the dress is even. You can fit it a little later during fitting

5. Shoulder bevel - 3 cm for the back and 5 cm for the shelf.

The bottom of the sleeve is at right angles to the shoulder line. We set aside 18-25 cm, depending on the fullness of the hand and the desired width

6. set a perpendicular to the sleeve hem line to the left

7. From the point where the lines intersect, we lay off a bisector of 3-4 cm. And through the resulting point we draw a rounding of the side

8. Cut out the neckline of the shelf and back - according to the drawing.

Want to update your wardrobe for summer? Are you going to a party with friends or a special event? Sew your own outfit. You will be irresistible and will absolutely emphasize your individuality. No one will come dressed exactly like that. You will be the queen of the event. The finished pattern will help you make your dreams come true.

Types of long dresses

Before you choose a pattern and buy fabric, you should think about which option will suit you best and like it. A long, straight dress will make you look slimmer, but a model that is too tight will not work if you are somewhat curvy. In this case, it is better to choose styles that go from the chest or have a loose cut and do not hug the figure.

The types of long dresses are as follows:

  • A-line;
  • ball gown;
  • evening;
  • imperial style;
  • caftan;
  • case;
  • high waisted;
  • sundress;
  • rural dress;
  • trampoline

For example, dresses of the first type can diverge downwards in the shape of the letter A, both from a tight-fitting waist and from above. Ballroom is usually done with an open back and shoulders, as well as a massive hem. The evening version is intended for special occasions, therefore it is made from expensive fabrics using trim. As a rule, it is floor-length, has a deep neckline and is characterized by the absence of sleeves. The imperial style dress is made with a high waist and a V-neck. The kaftan has a simple shape, so it is easy to sew. The case fits clearly on the figure, emphasizing its shape. Sundress - summer dress with straps. The rural option is the epitome of simplicity. The trampoline style resembles a musical instrument - a trumpet, as it sharply diverges downward.

Where to start

To decide on the style that you will sew, analyze your skills, and also go to the store for a fitting. They don't charge money for this. This way you can understand what suits your figure best. Remember, color can also greatly influence the impression you make in the outfit.

When choosing fabric, you should hold the flap to yourself and look in the mirror. If you like the color or design on a roll, this does not mean that you will look good in this version.

What you need

It is worth noting that during the preparation stage it is better to perform the steps in parallel. After all, you will need not only a model (image), but also a pattern for a long dress. Based on it (the size of the dress, the number of parts, the method of cutting the elements), you need to choose the fabric, taking into account its width, ability to stretch on the figure, visual impression of the color and pattern.

So, to sew an outfit yourself, you will need the following:

  • safety pins (with heads);
  • chalk or soap with a sharp edge;
  • scissors;
  • threads with a needle;
  • sewing machine (preferably with the function of processing edges with a zigzag seam);
  • iron;
  • decorative elements (optional).

Nothing special is really needed. If you decide to sew a dress yourself, you probably already have everything listed.

do it yourself: patterns

The most important thing is to find ready-made templates or build all the details of the product pattern yourself. The figure below shows a construction diagram, using which you can make a pattern for a model with a sleeve according to your dimensions.

The disadvantage of this method is the need to take measurements, that is, you cannot simply take and print a blank for your, for example, size 44. However, any template for specific proportions is performed using average values. If you have very narrow hips or small breasts, you may need to make adjustments to the finished pattern. In this case, it makes sense to build it yourself.

So, in the figure above, the lines indicated by numbers correspond to the following:

  1. Neck (neck).
  2. Breast.
  3. Waist.
  4. Hips.
  5. Bottom edge.

For any symmetrical product, the pattern is built only for half the front and back. The complete piece is created by folding the fabric onto which the template is attached. Accordingly, you will have to set aside the calculated dimensions from the vertical (axis of symmetry), that is, determine the size of the hips and mark along the 1/2 half-girth line.

You can use the pattern shown in the following image as a basis. All dimensions necessary for construction are indicated. Correlate them with yours and, if necessary, correct them. Don't forget to round the corners after finishing the drawing work.

This is how a pattern can be made for a straight dress, an A-shaped dress, a high-waisted dress, and others.

If you don’t like to make constructions on paper, but still want to sew patterns, you can take ready-made ones. If this is a regular picture from the screen, it needs to be scaled to its size. Do it to your own standards. For example, the bust size on the pattern matches yours, but the hips are larger. Print it like this - cutting off the excess is always easier than finishing, adjusting, adding.

Please note that the direction of the grain thread is indicated on the parts with an arrow. This is exactly how you need to lay out patterns on fabric. If there are no markings on the template, remember that the parts of the front, back, and sleeves are laid out along the grain. This must be taken into account when purchasing fabric; be sure to check how wide it is, and take the length in accordance with the height of the dress, with allowance for allowances and additional details.

Pattern for beginners

Below are 3 blanks for the easiest options to make.

Cutting them out won't be difficult. You only need to stitch two side seams, finish the bottom, armholes and neckline.

The second and third models are an easy way to make sundresses: fitted and loose.

Below is a pattern for a simple dress for beginners, where you will need to make the front and back parts in two parts, as well as stitch the darts. This will shape the dress so that it flatters your figure.

Another option that can be taken as a basis is cut along the chest line. Suitable if you want to hide figure flaws. The front and back consist of two parts - upper and lower.

Straight dress

If you have tried to make something using easy templates, you can move on to more complicated models, when the item is cut and connected from several parts (due to which a certain shape is obtained that fits the figure).

The straight dress pattern is presented below. Its length can be any.

The upper parts are laid out along the element, it is better to cut it on the bias.

How to make different dresses using the same pattern

The pattern of a long floor-length dress can be made from any model presented. Measure your height and make the front and back pieces to the desired length.

If you tried to make an outfit based on a ready-made sample and you liked the product, you should take a different material, combine two colors, and come up with an original decor. So, using one pattern you can make several different outfits.

We emphasize the advantages of the figure

It's easy to make a knitted long dress. The following pattern is suitable for it:

If you are slim and want to emphasize this, sew a tight dress to fit your figure. The length can also be adjusted as desired. This option is quite versatile and easy to manufacture.

We sew sundresses

If you decide to take up sewing in preparation for the summer season, pay attention to dresses with straps. They allow you to tan while adding femininity and elegance to your look.

The first option has a straight line on the chest, the second has a cutout that will certainly attract men's attention to your bust. Choose what suits you best.

You have seen that the pattern of a long dress can be very simple. It’s not difficult to sew an outfit using it. Gradually improving your skills, you can design different models based on one template.

Hello, my dear blog readers)). With the arrival of warmer weather (finally!) I really want to be beautiful). And what is the first thing a person who knows how to do sew with your own hands?….Right). Thinking about what to sew something so beautiful?..

How to sew a dress without a pattern?

Sewing clothes for yourself without patterns is actually very convenient, this way we skip the stage of constructing or printing a finished pattern and thereby save several hours of time.

Take your favorite knitted turtleneck as a base.

The first thing to do at this stage is to compare the stretchability of the purchased knitwear with the turtleneck knitwear. To do this:

  • measure on both fabrics a distance of 10 cm perpendicular to the grain of the fabric
  • stretch the fabric on the turtleneck jersey until it looks normal (not overstretched) and measure how long the fabric has stretched (for example, 15 cm)
  • We also measure the stretchability of the purchased fabric.
  • It will be ideal if the stretch matches, but if not, then you need to outline the turtleneck either a little more (1 cm) or a little less (based on measurements)

When everything is clear with the stretchability of both fabrics, we outline the turtleneck, repeating the contours, move the sleeve back and outline the armhole line, first make the neckline as closed as possible (so that you can then make any desired neckline). We outline taking into account the allowances (I usually take 0.5-0.7 cm).

The dress will have a loose fit at the hips, so we extend it to the bottom along the entire length of the fabric (1 m).

For this dress I needed:

  • red knitwear – 1 m
  • blue knitwear – 1 m
  • matching threads

Cut out a piece from red jersey:

Now we trace the front part from the red fabric onto the blue fabric:

Cut out a piece from blue fabric:

At this stage, I decided to put together a dress and have a fitting, during which it turned out that I wanted more freedom in the hips, since the dress fit almost to my figure (well, it’s also beautiful, but I had a different idea).

Therefore, I decided to add set-in wedges on the sides to add volume. Typically, such wedges are used in skirts. I cut two long wedges from both colors of fabric, the wedge starting from the waistline, all the way to the bottom of the piece. Thus, there will be a blue wedge on one side of the dress, and a red wedge on the other side.

This is what the wedges look like in a spread near the details of the dress:

Now we sew the part of the front and back of the dress along the side and shoulder seams.

At this stage, you need to draw the desired bottom line during the fitting process. I make the front of the dress much shorter than the back. Here's what it looks like from the side:

The difference in the length of the front and back is 10-15 cm:

Then we make the neckline. First, cut out the desired depth on the front of the dress:

Then we finish the neckline with bias tape. This is not the easiest moment when sewing a knitwear dress, but you can get the hang of it and get better at it. The main rule is that when sewing the binding to the neckline, the binding needs to be slightly stretched relative to the main fabric, then the binding will create the effect of an elastic band. Well, the place where the beginning and end of the binding meet requires careful work.

Now we process the bottom of the dress with a double hem. Here it is important to ensure that the fabric under the machine does not stretch at all; it is better to even push the fabric a little while sewing under the needle to avoid stretching, as “waves” may form along the bottom of the product.

We cut out the sleeves. I took the finished sleeve pattern from this knitted dress and from this evening dress. If you haven’t made a pattern for yourself yet, you can build one from scratch. About.
